Current Electoral Work: The Green Party of Central Missouri's own Dr. Bill Hastings is running for the 9th U.S. Congressional seat. Alternative energy and energy conservation: We are part of a Clean Energy coalition with other environmentally friendly groups including the Sierra Club and the Coalition for the Environment. We have created displays and published articles on the possibilities of wind power and hydrogen storage systems, as well as the importance of conservation. We are annual cosponsors of the Columbia Sustainable Living Fair and Columbia Earth Day. You can find out more about
alternative energy possibilities
Instant Runoff Voting (IRV): We are currently working with Mid-Missouri Peaceworks
on this project. Together we have formed the Columbia Instant Runoff
Voting Coalition, or Columbia IRV. Our primary goals currently involved
educating the public and researching the feasibility of IRV elections in
Columbia. To find out more about IRV and our local campaign, click
here.
Living Wage: This project is in the planning and research phase. We are gathering information from Greens and other progressive groups throughout the country, as well as speaking with experts locally. Living wage legislation has been adopted by more
than a dozen cities in the US. To find out more about what a living
wage is and our project specifically, click here.
Please note: Although we support and promote ecologically-sound laws, policies, and lifestyles, the Green Party also promotes social change on many other fronts. The projects we are currently sponsoring are not exceptions to Green politics; they are some of the "meat and potatoes" of our grassroots progressive movement |
