Universal Health Care:
Create a federally financed and locally controlled single-payer national health program 
similar to Canada's that provides medical and dental care for all.
 

Public Funded Child Care:
Provide federally financed, community controlled childcare for working parents.
 

A Living Wage:
Significantly increase the minimum wage. No adult should have to work 
for a wage less than one that could support a family.
 

Respect Privacy and Freedom of Choice:
Allow everyone to make family planning decisions free from government interference.Minimize abortion 
through sex education and access to contraception, not through legal restrictions. Provide all Americans 
with the same civil rights, regardless of sexual orientaition.
 

Gender and Racial Equality:
Pass the Equal Rights Amendment. Enact and enforce comparable worth legislation so 
that women and minorities receive equal pay for equal work.
 

Civil Liberties: Support the Bill of Rights and Due Process:
Do not compromise constitutional rights under the guise of "national security". 
Abolish the practice of racial profiling. Repeal the so-called Patriot Act.
 

End the War on Drugs: 
Focus on harm reduction, drug education, and treatment. 
Decriminalize drug possession. Release non-violent drug prisoners. Legalize marijuana.
 

Peace:
No blanket support for a perpetual global "war on terror": 
Bring the perpetrators of the crime of September 11th to justice, but let's not breed new enemies 
by bombing civilian populations, overthrowing governments and intervening all around the world. 
This is no substitute for capturing and punishing those responsible for 9-11.
 

Energy Independence Through Efficiency and Renewable Energy: 
Make a national commitment akin to the Manhattan Project to phase out fossil fuels. 
An efficient economy can be run on clean renewable sources like wind and solar power.
 

Fair Trade:
Oppose corporate directed globalization policies that drive down labor and environmental conditions.
 

Fair Farm Price Supports for Family Farmers: 
Reform farm price supports to cover the costs of production plus a living income for family farmers 
and farmworker cooperatives.
 

Environmental Protection:
Strengthen and enforce environmental laws. End destructive environmental practices like old growth logging, 
clear cutting, and strip mining. Raise CAFE standards for vehicles. Enact policies to reduce carbon dioxide 
emissions. End corporate welfare in the form of subsidized commercial exploitation of public lands by timber, 
mining and cattle grazing interests.
 

Grassroots Democracy:
Eliminate corporate and big money influences by passing clean election laws. The Brekhus campaign will not accept 
more than $100 in contributions from any individual (and we will take no PAC money).
